It’s All About Nitrogen Use Efficiency

Below highlights the principles of Nitrogen nutrition in your crops and how best to improve its use efficiency.
Nitrogen (N) is an integral constituent of nucleotides building up DNA & RNA, major component of organic metabolites (e.g. amino acids, phytohormones, secondary metabolites), and is required in the greatest amount by plants, often considered as a limiting factor for growth.
FUNCTION:
· Leaf growth & shoot branching are regulated by cytokinin in a NO3-dependent manner,
Glutamate is the precursor for chlorophyll synthesis and is stimulated by N,
N induces morphological changes to root systems architecture - mild N deficiency leads to elongation of lateral roots & primary root,
N levels affect flowering time - mild N deficiency promotes flowering.
AVAILABILITY:
Plants take up N in the form of NO3 and NH4+, but also organic N in the form of peptides & amino acids.
Uptake of N from soil creates increased (in case od NO3) or decreased (in case of NH4+) rhizosphere acidity,
Addition of organic matter (manure, crop residues) immobilizes N,
Excess of ammonium decreases the availability of N to the plant,
Excessive N fertilization cause Cu & Zn deficiencies.
At this time in our spring / summer cropping season, ensuring good nitrogen levels to your crops is critical for maximum crop performance. But you also need to ensure the availability of your nitrogen, reduce your losses from leaching and volatilisation or worse, nitrous oxide gas.
EEF's
Enhanced Efficient Fertilisers (EEF) are key to ensuring availability and sustainability of your nitrogen, with the leading option being Black Urea®. It is the only proven EEF that allows farmers to reduce application rates by 25% - 30% without loss of yield or mining soils all due to its Patented bio-coating.
The reduction in application does not affect plant production as the plant still receives the same amount of Nitrogen, the saving is in reducing the losses to environment that the plant was not accessing anyway (volatilisation, leaching, denitrification).
Reduce Your GHG
Proven now for almost 20 years here in Australia and internationally as your sustainable nitrogen option and your chance to progress or start your GHG reduction journey through a simple step of changing from white urea to Black Urea®.
As the application rate is reduced by 25% - 30%, your CO2e is also reduced by 25% - 30%, your freight is reduced by 25% - 30% and your handling and application is reduced by 25% - 30%. That is why Black Urea® is your economic and environmentally sustainable nitrogen. Learn more here.
